From references to a useful shoot brief
2 Min Read
The practical details that help a creative makeup idea reach the set.
A clear brief leaves more room for invention. When the creative team understands both the desired image and the practical limits, it becomes easier to make bold decisions without discovering avoidable problems on the day.
Describe the image
Share a small set of references and explain what you want from each. Include the intended mood, colour relationships, framing and final use. Mention any detail that must remain visible, such as an eye treatment, a lip colour or a specific piece of clothing.
Describe the production
Add the shoot date, location, cast size, number of looks and planned changes. Stills and film may need different preparation and continuity. If the concept involves sculptural materials, discuss the construction and movement with the relevant team members early.
Agree the next decisions
A useful first conversation ends with a shared understanding of what is fixed and what needs development. Confirm the tests, preparation, timing and scope before production. The result is a practical starting point that supports the creative idea, while giving everyone a clear role in bringing it to life.
